Blue Water Area Transit operates the majority of its fleet on compressed natural gas. Buses are fitted with storage tanks that hold natural gas as 3600 pounds per square inch. The engines are designed to run on natural gas with great reductions in pollution. The benefits of using natural gas include savings of around a dollar a gallon on the cost of the fuel, 95% reduction in the amount of particulates (soot), 90% reduction of NOX, and a 21% reduction in other greenhouse gases versus diesel.
